Is there a way to use and existing xml file as output for a XSL
transformation(essentially appending elements to an existing file)?
Yes, it's called the "identity transform" and is easy to look up and learn
about. The stylesheet processor traverses a source document, copying its
nodes to output as it goes. To aggregate files, you would extend the
transform so it "annotates" your source (with information drawn from your
other sources) as it goes along.
Funny how these questions come in clusters. The identify transform came up
at least twice yesterday....
