RE: xsl:number problem

Wendell,

I mentioned "xml string" regarding to the StreamGenerator. It is a
well-formatted xml tree input as a stream to the StreamGenerator.
StreamGenerator will connect to a transformer (here gnumeric + xsl) and
serialize it using poi API to Excel. I can take a look at the xml before
tranforming it in my log. Basically it is working as it should be.

I really appreciate your suggestions on ways to learn xslt. You guys are very
helpful!!

Charlene

Charlene,

It's this magic step that you need to look at. Excel does not merely
"display" an "xml string": it processes some form of input (possibly XML
input). In what form is the XML relayed as output from the XSLT transform
into Excel? Is it serialized (and written as an XML file), and if so where,
and if not, is there any way to serialize it?

If you can't inspect your output directly in some fashion (before another
tool does its devilish thing with it) then how can you possibly debug the
transform? (BTW -- hint -- there's currently a very useful thread going on
about the best books to learn XSLT from. :-)

There must be a way to look at the output before it gets all the way
through to the the spreadsheet.

Cheers,
Wendell
