Even with XSLT 2.0 or with an extension you'll need to know what rule to apply.
In principle, this is only achievable some of the time. I can have a
process that automatically converts the string
"Hi, how are you?"
into the string
"xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
and converts "I'm fine, thanks" into "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
but the process that will turn them back again correctly is ... er ...
non-trivial. :->
