RE: RE: New Developer Survey Shows XQuery Adoption Skyrocketing

2005-03-29 15:25:57
From the link supplied to the survey, "This comprehensive industry-wide study
surveyed the opinions of 550 qualified software professionals in January 2005,
to quantify the level of interest in XQuery technologies. The XQuery Industry
Study provides real world data about this emerging technology (illustrated
below) - the margin of error is estimated to be approximately 4%, 19 times out
of 20."

Note the terms "comprehensive industry-wide" and the reference to "margin of
error". If the claim is not explicit, it is implicit in the use of these terms
in the context. I'm lining up with the sceptics, it's a self-serving piece of
marketing fluff.

I'm incredulous at this claim.

Read it again. They are not claiming that the software professionals they
spoke to were randomly selected or statistically representative.
