Following up. David was correct in that the .NET architecture was not
providing your typical nodeset to the
XSLT.
That _is_ the typical nodeset, and consistent with the way an XPath
would have worked if you'd defined the variable within XSLT rather than
passing it in as a parameter. (Which is why I guessed that would be the
case, even though I haven't used the .net xslt)
