yes I should have checked on result-document, what i really had in mind
was more common (and allowed) side effects like node creation, but I
couldn't think of any way of making those nodes externally visible
within a single xpath (ignoring the fact that the system might just
optimise away the entire construct) I think you'd have to use
xsl:message or trace() or an extension function
