I think a better source for figuring out the status of a particular
technology or set of technologies is to take a central website (or
websites)
and use the trends for websites feature, for example:

http://trends.google.com/websites?q=xml.com%2C+biglist.com%2C+xml.coverpages.org&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

That looks more interesting.

How are these composite?  What I'm referring to would look something more
like "xslt OR xsl OR xpath, xquery" from the search box (though this doesn't
work) where the OR operator combines the search into a composite of all the
results for each search term.
