ok. I'm not sure which one to use in my case. Using the below as an example:
<xsl:variable name="counter">
<xsl:number level="single" format="1" />
</xsl:variable>
<xsl:element name="hd{$counter}">
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:element>
<xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes">></xsl:text>
In the output file I actually need to generate the following. In this case
probably in
this case the <xsl:output method="text" is the way to go?
<PStyle:hd1>
<PStyle:hd2>
etc.
Not just
<hd1>
<hd2>
etc.

I'm using the because I want the angle bracket in the output file.
If you are generating a text file, use xsl:output method="text" then you
don't need disable-output-escaping (it does nothing in that case)
If you are generating an XML file, then you want to generate the element
node with name hd1 rather than a start tag and the XSLt serialiser
will automatically output the right thing.
