Have been following the hanging deamon debate with some interest. I too
have experienced this, I think. It is a rather intermittent error but is
definitely worse on big messages (eg 2Mb). In one fetchmail session which I
started with "keep" the 2Mb file was fetched but then on another later
occasion it was attempted but never completed in 3 hrs. Restarting brought
it down in about 20 minutes on a dial up 56K line. No big gripe yet - just
adding my observation if it helps.
Which pop3 server are you connecting to? I was connecting to
Maillennium, which is pretty-much guaranteed to hang fetchmail in
daemon mode with any long message. Today I've switched to a different
primary pop3 box using Intermail, and I'll let everyone know if the
problem goes away. So far (three hours after the switch) there are no
problems, but I haven't tried explicitly sending myself a long
message.
Is anyone at all using fetchmail successfully to retrieve long
messages (i.e. 1MB+) from Maillennium pop3 servers in daemon mode?
All the best,
David
