RE: [fetchmail]Where's my From line gone?

2004-04-27 15:27:15
1) Your ISP doesn't use the legacy mailbox format and as such doesn't
generate the "From " header.

2) Fetchmail passes on exactly what it gets, which means no "From "
header.

Ahhh. I see. So if I'd been luckier, my ISP would have given me my From
headers. Ho hum.

I'd suggest your quickest fix is to add the entries to sendmail.mc
provided by Rob Funk, regenerate sendmail.cf and restart sendmail,
telling fetchmail to pass all email to it.

I've reverted to sending all mail via sendmail (the default
configuration), and I'll see if the nodns/nocanonify FEATUREs work
(another day, when I've got the patience to test it properly, chase the
issues arising, etc).

Actually, I'm rather pessimistic about this, as a quick look in
        http://www.sendmail.org/m4/features.html#nodns
says "as of 8.7 this is a no-op". Anyway, I'll give it a try another day.

The longer term solution is to migrate to another format, or LDA.
Certainly moving away from sendmail is enticing, but I'm sure it'll be
painful.

I will say that you're unlucky. I've had zero problems with fetchmail
and frequently forget about it for months on end - only touching it when
I upgrade versions.
It's odd. Oh, well. Seems I'm on the boundary here.
