WG Status (Re: Join the IETF mailing list!)

1992-03-02 14:00:14

Uncle!

To summarize the current status of the working group....

- A last call was issued for MIME and Message Headers January 16th.

  - The IESG sent MIME back to the WG with several comments.
Nathaniel has submitted to the Internet Drafts a new version
reflecting changes requested from the IESG and other editorial nits
raised during the last call. The WG will re-submit the document as
soon as the chair feels the WG has "approved" the new document.
PLEASE GRAB A COPY OF THE LATEST AND REVIEW THE CHANGES! This is
not a time to re-open settled issues, but to review the changes made
in response to the IESG's concerns.

  - The IESG approved Message Headers, but is holding up the
recommendation for Proposed Standard for MIME so they can issue a
single recommendation for the two related documents.

- Nmemonic was reviewed at the last meeting in Santa Fe and comments
have been folded into the current drafts. The character sets are
tabled in the ID <draft-ietf-822ext-charsets-04.txt> and the nmemonic
encoding is described in <draft-ietf-822ext-mnemonics-03.txt>. If
the working group is willing, the character set tables will be
submitted to the IESG as a informational document, and the nmemonic
encoding will be submitted as a proposed standard. (PLEASE REVIEW
  THESE DOCUMENTS AND SEND COMMENTS.)

- The 822 Extensions Working Group will NOT be meeting at the San
Diego IETF meeting March 16-20th. MIME should be finished by then
and the WG should spend time implementing and refining before
  meeting again.

- In other IETF news of interest to this WG

  - The SMTP Extensions Working Group will be meeting in San Diego
Monday March 16th from 1:30-3:30 and Tuesday March 17th from
    4:00-6:00.

  - The Network Fax document was submitted to the IESG. The last call
was sent January 20th. It was sent back to the Working
Group for editorial work to refine it's scope. The requested
changes were made and the document will be considered for proposed
standard at the next IESG meeting. The Network FAX working group
will meet Monday March 16th from 9:30 to 12:00.

  - The Network News working group will meet at the same time as the
network FAX working group Monday March 16th from 9:30 to 12:00.
It will also meet Monday from 4:00 to 6:00, and on Wednesday from
    9:00-12:00.

  - The ODA working group will not meet at this IETF plenary meeting.
