As this Working Group has discussed in Santa Fe, the Mnemonic encoding
documents have been edited to meet the MIME requirements for a
character set. These changes, and an editorial alignment have been
available for several weeks. I have received a request to move these
on to the IESG from the author and solicit final comments on this
action.
Specifically, this Working Group has been asked to recommend
"Character Mnemonics & Character Sets"
<draft-ietf-822ext-charsets-04.txt> as an informational document
This document lists a selection of characters and their presence in some
coded character sets. To facilitate the coded character set tabulations
an unambiguous mnemonic for each character is used, and a format for
tabulating the coded character sets is defined.
"Mnemonic Character Sets" <draft-ietf-822ext-mnemonics-03.txt>
describes how to use the mnemonics and character sets tabled in the
above document as a character set. It is intended to register this
mechanism with IANA as a character set for use in MIME.
Please send comments to the ietf-822 mailing list in the next weeks.
Once Working Group consensus can be established, these documents will
be sent to the IESG.
