as I'm quite sure you will be able to find other use of MET and WET. I
think the numeric format has the future.
Unfortunately, as we discovered in the iCalendar working group, numeric
format works for present times and for past times (if one can determine
what the UTC offset was on that date). Unfortunately, it doesn't work for
some future times. This is because the DST rules for that location may
change (for a whole variety of reasons). Thus, for future times, one is
forced to employ a geographic area designator that in the case of
iCalendar is registered with IANA. But given geopolitical realities, even
this binding may change over time.
