What do folks suggest for the largest maximum size of the left-hand
field of a message-id (id-left)?

An interesting data point.  I understand you viewing one left-hand-sade
as being the same as any other. However RFC821 has nothing to do with the
Message-ID field.

yes, constraints on the right-hand side are pretty well established.
that's why i only asked about the left-hand side.
