Gnus support an author-copies avoiding solution, by obeying the
`Mail-Copies-To: nobody' news header even for e-mail. See
<http://www.newsreaders.com/misc/mail-copies-to.html>.

It might be complicated to specify Mail-Copies-To for e-mail, in a way
that make sense for all combination of news/e-mail and handover from
news to mail and vice versa. But it may be possible. Perhaps by
adopting, for e-mail use, only the "nobody" subset of MCT.

MCT does not make much sense in Email, except for mailing lists, where it
should work quite well.

If you wrote
    Mail-Copies-To: poster
in an ordinary email, then it would be of null effect, because that is
where replies go to in any case. But it would do no harm.

But in a MUA with a "Reply-To-List" feature (which few MUAs have, but
which would reply to the List-Post address), then "MCT: poster" would cause
that command to reply to the poster as well as to the list, which is just
fine.

Likewise, "Mail-Copies-To: foo(_at_)bar(_dot_)example" would be no different to
Reply-To in an ordinary mail, but would do the Right Thing with a
"Reply-To-List" command, where provided.
