FWIW, when I tried sending a message to this list without a From field,
a) sendmail immediately added a From:
<mailer-daemon(_at_)(_dot_)(_dot_)(_dot_)>
But that may just have been your submission sendmail. More interesting is
what would happen if it arrived at a relaying MTA like that.
b) the message never appeared on the list
Which is worrying.
IMHO either From: <> or From: <-(_at_)[]> would work better.
OK, since Bruce seems unwilling to put any of this to a practical test, I
have just submitted three messages to this list, by telnetting directly to
my usual smarthost.
One has no From at all
One has From: Charles Lindsey <>
One has From: Charles Lindsey <-(_at_)[]>
Please report here how they reached you, or if any of them fails to
arrive.
Note that none of them has a Message-ID, so it might also be interesting
to see whether any Message-IDs get added en route.
