Hi,

it was already mentioned that a redesign of the Transfer
Protocol might be taken into consideration. I was already
collecting some thoughts when this working group came up.

Due to the forthcoming IETF meeting, it is currently not
possible to submit drafts. But if anyone likes to have
a glance at it:

My first thought - how about RSET or equivalent?
This is used far more often than may be thought to
clear down a SMTP connection to sync states of
originating and recipeint MTA's.

I am doinw some work for a client that is delivering
content to customers via email (subscription service!)
and we are hitting the limits of sendmail - RSET is a
godsend when SMTP gets in a tizzy and you just want
to wipe the slate and resubmit.
