RFC 2821 already requires a "fast" response to the final dot.

What if the mail is expanded via an alias to hundreds of recipients?


If the list is present, the message can be accepted. The various bounce
messages for the individual subscribers go to the list owner, not the
envelope from of someone posting to the list. The MTA can respond to the
list owner in any way mutually agreed upon. The idea is just not to
send DSNs to strangers.
