I don't understand why you need to know it's a list. If phoo.com has
a good reputation, why does it matter whether it's signing list mail
or individual love letters?

I wasn't asserting that you need to know it's a list. I was responding
to William who had said that determining the role of the signer was
useful, and I was describing the problems associated with determining that.

Actually I do think that reputation should be done based on role.
I also think that even when its not role-specific, the roles could
play a 'role' in determining overall reputation general score as well.

So responding to John as to why its it would matter, the example would
be if organization used listserver and there was found a bug in the software that allowed to let lots of spam through. Depending on the company, their reputation may suffer considerably because of that, but reputation of user email from that company (assuming corporate environment) would be different. This is just one example, I can give an opposite one where reputation of users varies widely where as reputation of listservices would be constant and good.

Anyway, I'm afraid as others are pointing out this type of talk is
something that was explicitly ruled off-topic for the wg.
