That is what a Content-Type is used for.  This is part of MIME but
also used by HTTP and other protocols.  No need to invent yet
another content type description.

The problem here is that Android does not allow to set a Content-Type
when sharing data between applications. A MIME type however is the
most preferred way of indicating the type of data that is being

So Android is heavily based on these Intent sharing actions and tries
to get away from a traditional file based OS. So instead of relying on
file endings it would be nice to have a MIME type indicating the content
