Dear iCAP Forum Member,
You are highly encouraged to come to the free iCAP Forum, which will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in San Jose on January 25th from 8:30 am to noon. You will see demos of iCAP solutions from Trend Micro, Zack Network, Everypath, and 8e6 Technologies and be able to network with other iCAP developers and customers. You will also hear from Thomas Zaech of HypoVereins Bank, who will discuss the bank's deployment of its iCAP solution. For more information, visit the iCAP Web site at <http://www.i-cap.org>http://www.i-cap.<http://www.i-cap.org>org or call (925) 287-5111 to register; you can also register at the event.

As an open standard architecture, iCAP provides, for the first time, a non-proprietary and simple scheme for Internet caching servers -- some of the primary engines that run the Internet -- to communicate with application and content servers, Internet engines typically located at the "edge" of the network closest to the user. The new iCAP protocol represents a significant step forward in reinforcing the Internet's infrastructure to support emerging wireless access devices, simplify creation of value-added services delivered from the edge of the network, and improve Internet security.

With this new protocol, new access devices and value-added services can easily be added to existing systems as modules, without the need to rewrite software using the proprietary schemes that are widely employed today. For instance, initial iCAP customers estimate that with iCAP, new devices and services can be adapted to access Internet content within several weeks versus 4-6 months with previous technology. iCAP will provide a scalable and interoperable infrastructure to support delivery of a massive array of services at the edge of the network such as dynamic virus scanning, content filtering, human language translation, and personalized ad insertion.

About iCAP
The iCAP Forum is hosted by Network Appliance and Akamai Technologies and is joined by dozens of the industry's leading Internet companies including content delivery service providers, application developers, and Internet infrastructure companies. Information on how to participate in development of the protocol is available on the iCAP Web site or by contacting partners(_at_)i-cap(_dot_)org(_dot_)

Kind Regards,
Lee
