it's of course useful to understand that brain-damage exists.

but it's a bad idea to conclude that because it exists, and because
it exists in the minds of people with power, we should all start 
thinking that way.  you can't do good design with a mindset like that.

try to understand the other mindset, but don't get it confused with sanity.
or reality.
