Please note this update: IETF mission statement

2004-05-03 00:09:55
I have tried to incorporate the extremely useful feedback I got on this list and from the Korea plenary.

I hope this is ready to send to IETF-wide Last Call.
This is your chance to get at it early :-)

Take care,

               Harald

Subject: I-D ACTION:draft-alvestrand-ietf-mission-01.txt

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.

Title : A Mission Statement for the IETF
        Author(s) : H. Alvestrand
        Filename : draft-alvestrand-ietf-mission-01.txt
        Pages : 16
        Date : 2004-4-30

This memo gives a mission statement for the IETF, tries to define the
terms used in the statement sufficiently to make the mission
statement understandable and useful, argues why the IETF needs a
mission statement, and tries to capture some of the debate that led
  to this point.

The appendix giving the debate is intended to be deleted when the RFC
is published; it is only given here as a reference and a thank-you
  note

Send a message to:

In the body type:
        "FILE /internet-drafts/draft-alvestrand-ietf-mission-01.txt".

NOTE: The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
        how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.
