let me apologize in advance.  it's saturday here and i'm behaving offtopicly.

One question.  Governments don't assign street adresses at birth, why
would they assign IP addresses? IP addresses are addresses, not Internet
Identifiers.

well, here in the land of the PATRIOT act, there's been some discussion of
taking a DNA sample at birth and keeping it on file.  a one-way hash of the
numerical analysis of the sample would make a very unique value.  think of
it as the human equivilent of ethernet's 48-bit MAC address.  don't laugh,
this kind of thing plays really well in "the red states" where the executive
branch of the U.S. government is trusted beyond any possible reproach.

128 bits ought to be just about right.  so, ipv6 may yet come into vogue.
