But the IETF is not open to opinions which vary from its core stated

What about its legendary "rough consensus"? If I trust what the IETF
says about itself --as we all should-- it /is/ open to varying
opinions. I'm talking of RFCs, not specific arrangements for IETF 79.

Yup, the political relevance of technology has been debated since
ancient Greece, and before.
As to fairness BULL SH*T. The IETF is anything but fair or open in form.
If it is not, then that's a defect that we (Internet users) should
actively amend. Note that the same is true for the Chinese government
w.r.t. its people. The difference is that the Internet is "one of the
greatest political forces in history", in your own words [1].
