Re: IETF chair's blog

2013-02-25 11:31:21
Hi Brian,

It's proprietary, isn't it? The pop-ups on the the web site don't seem to
work for me, but I can see a Buy button. (I realise that usage for the IETF
is free, and I have no complaints.)

As you say, usage for the IETF is free, like our software ('free as in
freedom'...).
The Buy button you mention (which is not operational as of yet) will be used to
buy a 'one-shot' conference on a SaaS basis and does not relate to our IETF
activities.

Not sure about the standards status.

We tend to rely solely on open (IETF) standards: SIP, XMPP, BFCP, RTP, etc. We
have some hooks towards proprietary technologies (flash and the like), but just
for interoperability purposes.

Anyway - if we want to move forward in an agreed way, I do think we
need a list of criteria. I forgot "reliable" BTW.

Agreed. This is a highly desirable (and difficult to achieve) feature.

Cheers,

Simon
