There's no way you're going to get that level of portability out of a single
.mh-profile.
See mh-profile(5) for a description of the 'MH' environment variable. I
suspect you'll end up with a few OS-specific .mh_profile variants that you
point at conditional on the OS environment you are running in.
It's a bit annoying, but it works.
