William, If you check you'll see that I've said authentication has a definite role. Trust is, in my opinion, even more valuable. Neither is essential for every single message. Both currently have a higher priority in PEM than privacy. No one has asked whether the people here want the PEM standard as it is now. You may want to do so. I simply asked "What's most important?".
