your Message-Id:'s are, and how many other (different) messages might be
compared to the same idcache between the first arrival of a new message and
the last straggler among its duplicates. I'd say start at, oh, 8192 bytes

this can sometimes be a function of time more than anything else - for
example, sendmail will bounce anything it can't deliver after three
days, so if you hang on to Message-Id:'s that long you should solve
your problem. Of course, if you know the volume of mail you are
dealing with, and that volume is fairly constant, you can determine an
appropriate cache size.

I'm finishing up work on a "expired" program that will work in the
same way as "formail -D", but be time-based instead of size based.
Among other things, this will allow the -t option of some vacation(1)
programs to be implemented in procmail.
