help for bouncemail parsing?

1996-12-17 09:22:56
Hi!

This is a plea for help from a complete newbie.

I administrate a Majordomo-List (and no neither the server nor the choice
of listsoftware is mine), which generates up to 100 Bounces a day, which
Majordomo will dutifully pass on to me. I then get my mail via POP, filter
it out in my Mailreader (Eudora) and act on them using scripts of my own.

So far, so bad.

What I'm hoping for, is that somebody else had this problem, and found a
way using procmail to alleviate the problem.

The solution I imagined would be the following:

The owner-list address gets piped into procmail, which then passes on the
approvals and the (un)subscribe notices to me. If it detects a bounce, it
should put that bounce somewhere else, and pass only a summary of "how many
bounces from where for which address" to me.
(I'd still like to handle the decision of putting someone on the bounclist
manually, as I know my subscribers, and I know some of the serveres have
only intermittent troubles and will be back generating only one or two
bounces.)

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks in advance,
Thomas Hassan
