[Curse], the whole point got lost here. What I meant to write was of
course 

    * ? echo "Message-Id: <$SUBJ_$FROM>" | ...

I don't think formail would particularly mind if you left out the
brokets, but like I said, this is untested.

Anyhow, the world would benefit from a more general cache-checking
type program, perhaps as an extension to GNU md5sum or something?
