Spying on brainless procmail

1997-07-15 09:05:00
Hello folks,

I need help with a puzzling procmail problem. I haven't found any
references in the documentation, and have used procmail quite
successfully in the past on other platforms.

I'm trying to get procmail running on an IRIX 6.3 system, and it's not
working properly. I'm trying to figure out some way of knowing whether
there was a problem with the compilation or with the procmail
configuration; VERBOSE=on is not yielding enough information.

My .forward is set up correctly, and sendmail is invoking procmail upon
delivery. However, as far as I can tell, procmail never accesses my
.procmailrc file and immediately delivers all messages to
/tmp/dead.message.

All messages, whether piped directly to procmail or delivered via
sendmail, generate no errors with VERBOSE=on other than something like
this:

    procmail: [1771] Tue Jul 15 10:13:30 1997
    procmail: Locking "/tmp/dead.letter.lock"
    procmail: Assigning "LASTFOLDER=/tmp/dead.letter"
    procmail: Opening "/tmp/dead.letter"
    procmail: Acquiring kernel-lock
    procmail: Unlocking "/tmp/dead.letter.lock"
    From mps Mon Jul 14 16:02:49 1997
      Folder:
/tmp/dead.letter 301
    procmail: Notified comsat: "10137(_at_)0:/tmp/dead.letter"

I'm suspecting a flawed build, but if anyone has seen this before please
let me know. (my compiler is a bootstrapped gcc). Also, if you know of
some way to yield more diagnostic messages out of procmail, that would
be helpful.

Thanks!
