Yes, I do quite complicated things with outgoing mail, governed by its
own .outprocmailrc file. Mostly this is to make up for inadequacies in
an MUA that can't, for example, set different Reply-To: fields depending
on which mail folder I'm working with.
Instead of pushing outgoing messages direct to sendmail, my MUA directs
them to a procmail script I call postroom. There are some guidelines
about how to do this in the procmail man pages.
I've no idea how canonically correct this is, and I hear some experts
muttering about not messing with envelopes, but I've used it for several
months now and it seems to work fine.
Mind you, I never get any replies to any of my messages, so it's hard to
tell. (No, I'm just kidding....)
