   Ditto.  For what it's worth, I usually reply privately because it's not
   unheard of for me to misread the message and solve the wrong problem.
   I usually include a request for the recipient to post a summary to the
   list describing how the problem was fixed.

   BTW, I've seen a few questions about archiving mail older than a certain
   date.  If anyone's interested, I have a Perl script called "markdate"
   which accepts a Berkeley-style mail folder, and does the following for
   each message:

       * Rewrites the "Date: " line in ARPA/sendmail standard form:
                Mon, 27 Oct 1997 11:43:05 -0500

       * Adds a line to the header if the date exceeds a certain age:
                X-Expired: message is more than xx days old
