Someone else tried a 4., so I'll start at 5. Here's a couple:
5. Make the need for LINEBUF go away. I may have faulty memory, but I looked
at the code about a year and a half ago and it didn't look too bad to do that.
(I was, to be sure, looking for other reasons though.)
6. Variables containing what came before and after $MATCH.
(I had an example use for #6 involving MIME... I'll see if I can find it
and post it later. The basic idea was, get something into $MATCH and then
replace that with something else.)
