Sean recommended that Mark, as a last resort, use a global lockfile until he
pinpoints exactly where the locking is needed:

| If you think locking issues within the recipe is causing your grief, you
| could try producing a global lock of your own around the complete recipe
| set:
|
| LOCKFILE=/etc/procmailrcs/global.procmail.lock
|
| (all of your stuff, minus the $DEFAULT rule at the end)
|
| LOCKFILE

It isn't necessary to release a global lockfile explicitly; procmail will,
upon exit, remove any global or regional lockfile that had been acquired by
setting the LOCKFILE variable.  (That's the among the reasons one should
never kill procmail with signal 9.)

If it's a regional lockfile (and Mark is putting it around a group of
recipes rather than having it in effect for the entire rcfile) and it is not
needed all the way to the end of the rcfile, then release it explicitly.
