Erm... sorry, but what does this mean?

It's what happens when there's a 'c' flag on a recipe where the action
is a nesting block.  A separate process is created (forked) and this
separate process handles the contents of the nesting block then exits.
The original process jumps to the next appropriate recipe (if there is
one) and carries on from there.

Are the only mentions I find of "forking"

Take a look for 'clone' or 'cloning'.  Or, perhaps, "man fork" depending
on what level you were posing the question!!
