"Skipped" is a sure indicator of bad syntax in your rcfile.

Skipped isn't a "fine" thing.
$ mutt -f /home/kreme/Mail/\(Personal\)/Friends/Amy
or
$ mail -f "/home/kreme/Mail/(Personal)/Friends/Amy"
Mail version 8.1 6/6/93. Type ? for help.
"+(Personal)/Friends/Amy": 0 messages
Try 'ls' and let us see file info.
shows an empty mailbox with no messages. None of my email clients are
able to access any of the messages in it.
Unexpected path syntax perhaps? What happens if you copy the mbx file
elsewhere and open it?
