Re: how to apply a new recipe to already arrived messages?

2004-06-21 12:06:38
Hello,

How are you doing? Thanks for all who replied.

I apologize for beeing so difficult to read, (it was clear for me).

I have promail configured and working since many years.

My question is that often I decide to make a new recipe when I see messages
in my INBOX which should go somethere else. So I add a new rule to my config
and it is working for new messages, but the messages which already arrived,
before I add the rule, they remain in my INBOX. I would like to find a way
to have these messages going in the folder they have, using the same rules
as for incoming messages. And messages which have no rules should remain in
my INBOX and the messages which go to other folder should no more remain in
my INBOX after the application of the rules.

See you,

        Jean-Bernard

It happens that most of the time the I add a new recipe to my procmail
config, I already have messages in my INBOX, which should have been
sorted
by the new recipe. Can I sort these messages with procmail?

mv inbox oldbox
formail -ds procmail < oldbox

Sorry, I didn't understand the question and the answer.
Cyrille can you explain? Didn't the question was howto
sort a message - pipe the message into command sort(1)?

this is a procmail list, not a unix one :)
so, the question was : howto sort (using procmail) the incomming messages.
in other words, it means that "Jean-Bernard" don't have setup it's .forward
and all the emails goes to its inbox instead of to be sorted (in multiple
mailboxes) using procmail.
