Just a question regarding this post:
If DROPPRIV is set to NO: does it mean procmail runs with root
priviledges or just "elevated priviledges"? If so, how do they differ
from root priviledges?

because at that point, the delivery is being made with elevated
privileges. It should be noted that up until that post, you had
never made it clear that you were delivering as any user other than
yourself (since you're emailing from an address of "junk@") -- thus
my comment about delivering to a different mailbox name for clarity.
_root_ can create files at will within the /var/spool/mail dir - joe
user shouldn't be able to. Thus your problem in trying to create
various files in there after dropping privileges.
i had to modify procmail rule to point to the mailbox by using
fullpath
instead of
junk
/var/spool/mail/junk
Well, one needs to consider the current working directory when
delivering to a relative path.
