So, like, the other day "Kevin Reed" mumbled:
The only listed MX is
jdl.com. 3296 IN MX 10 mail.jdl.com.
Right.
# dig jdl.com
www.jdl.com. 3600 IN A 192.207.126.5
Yep.
gets you the IP of 192.207.126.5 and when you look that up...
# dig -x 192.207.126.5
5.126.207.192.in-addr.arpa. 3600 IN PTR mail.jdl.com.
5.126.207.192.in-addr.arpa. 3600 IN PTR chrome.jdl.com.
5.126.207.192.in-addr.arpa. 3600 IN PTR jdl.com.
5.126.207.192.in-addr.arpa. 3600 IN PTR www.jdl.com.
Right. And that is the missing step I blitzed. There are
other host names, but I don't need reverses for them.
Instead of using CNAME's, you have setup A RR's for the other names
you use on the same IP.
There are no CNAMEs anywhere in my DNS configuration.
All my machines names are listed explicitly with A records.
I may have held a grad school office with Paul Albitz, but I'm
not claiming to be a DNS Expert (tm)... :-) I'm not saying what
I have is _right_, just what it currently _is_. You know.
