Hi folks --
FYI, here's some figures on SPF's results in "real world" mail, from a
quick SpamAssassin mass-check/hit-frequencies run over my received mail
corpus for the last few weeks.
OVERALL% SPAM% HAM% S/O RANK SCORE NAME
8796 2273 6523 0.258 0.00 0.00 (all messages)
100.000 25.8413 74.1587 0.258 0.00 0.00 (all messages as %)
3.433 0.0000 4.6298 0.000 1.00 -0.10 T_SPF_PASS
1.762 0.4399 2.2229 0.165 0.00 0.20 T_SPF_FAIL
0.000 0.0000 0.0000 0.500 0.12 0.10 T_SPF_SOFTFAIL
So ~7% of my mail recently has been from people with SPF TXT records set
up!
Also currently, all the domains with SPF records are published by non-spam
people. Not too surprising, that ;)
But in terms of SPF failures -- 2.2229% of my nonspam mail is failing the
SPF test. That's 32% of all messages with an SPF record available. :(
As far as I can tell, this is because of mailing lists, including Yahoo!
groups and a couple of small-scale lists, and the .forward situation, all
of which are relaying a message and preserving the envelope from.
Looks like getting lists/.forwards updated to resend with a new envelope,
is going to be pretty important.
