Firstly, a HELO with no FQDN is an instant ticket into most spamboxes.
Ditto for a HELO with no A or MX record.

Hmmm... I seem to recall this being discussed before, and significant
number of emails arrive with bogus HELO strings. Either they aren't
FQDN, or they don't have A/MX records.

Are you sure that bad HELO strings are an instant ticket to most
spamboxes?

Third, if the message is not formatted like a bounce message, you know
it's spam. If the bounce wasn't for a message you generated (which your
MUA or MTA could track) it's spam.

My understanding is that there is a huge variety of formats for bounce
messages. Most do not contain headers, sometimes they don't contain any
information that you can track with. :-<
