RE: SPF: Not just a clever idea

2004-06-07 09:43:34
I have not seen the contract (so can anyone confirm this?):

I expect MS lawyers will force that any software that says SPFv2 or "New SPF"
will have to implement
the caller ID and XML. So either you cannot say anything about SPF or you will
have to implement
the XML crap.

Further, whether or not you support the XML, recall that you publish either TXT
or XML but not both.
Therefore if you only implement TXT then you will be missing out on a lot of
possible blocking
because unfortunately M$ products have wide deployment.

And its not even what this merger looks like today that scares me, its how much
bigger, inefficient
and insecure it becomes tomorrow. History sometimes repeats itself.

But *everyone* will have to implement it in their parsers.

Why? Until you want your PR to rubber-stamp your product as being
"compliant with all the features of the spec", who's here to tell you
what to put in your own code? You can implement the old-style syntax
first, and wait and see if enough of your customers scream to get the
XML part to decide whether or not it's worth the effort coding it.

Haven't you noticed that the bastardised spf proposal

It's not much of s schism as of today. Where's the alternate mailing
list? Where's the alternate standard? Who's on board the schism?

I haven't agreed to any merger of anything with anybody.

This is not your call to make, it's Meng's.

Michel.
