So we've received something like $300 so far from the fundraiser.

By comparison, the entrance fee for a single individual to
attend an IETF meeting is $500.

We may have to set up a structure like

If we set up "corporate membership" for SPF, would people on
this mailing list get their companies to join?

I think it depends on how transparent the spending / dedication of the
funds in question would be. There would have to be a non-profit
organization formed to manage these funds, and full disclosure on who
the money is coming from and where the money is going to,

Who is the secretary?
Can we influence where the money is spent? (eg: transgaming)*
What do we get out of this membership?

* transgaming (the entity behind winex) allows users so many votes based
on how much they donate. The votes are used to influence where
developers will spend their focus. So if I really want Super SPF Bros.
running in winex I put all my votes there.

IMO I don't really see this flying. It should remain as donations and
remove all the legal garbage associated with doing otherwise.

IMO the BEST donation we can get here is people's time and more
awareness, and some free bandwidth/hosting etc.. Money just complicates
things and muddies up the water.

Cheers,

James
