Hi all. My DNS is, sadly, hosted on Windows NT 4.0 Server. I'd love
to get around to changing that but don't have enough time right now.
I tried putting:
mydomain.com IN TXT "v=spf1 ptr -all"
into my zone file, updated the serial, and restarted the service. It
did not squawk, but when I go to the DNSStuff SPF tester, I get back:
Error: I could not get the SPF string [SPF not supported (the
mydomain.com TXT record does not exist, negative TTL=3108).].
I assume the zone file has a name like mydomain.com.dns
If you edit the NT based zone file directly it needs to look
something like this for the main domain record
@ 0 TXT "v=spf1 ptr -all
and for non mailing devices
zombiepc 0 TXT "v=spf1 -all
The 0 (zero) is not an obvious thing to do
IMHO for NT DNS, generally much easier to use the windows
interface for the odd change, or make an example record to
duplicate by hand if a lot of entries are required.
