And many developers I know can't admin or secure a box to save their
life, nor keep it running for very long.

Deployment and management is *definitely* part of the "art", insofar as
sysadmins define the requirements that drive development. IMHO.


...and many sysadmins program.  Some out of necessity, some out of a
love for the art.  I don't think the same can be said for programmers,
except perhaps the "out of necessity" bit.  But I'd imagine the number
of sysadmins who program far outweighs the number of programmers who
sysadmin.
