For those who are not sub'd to the MARID list I fwd here a copy of my
final message to that list. The one which followed it unsubscribed me. I
have always had a live and let live approach to my dealings with
Microsoft. "It's only software after all." has been my personal mantra.
No longer. I intend to make it my business to let the world know how and
why the MARID effort died. The "world" I speak of includes the general
internet public, politicians and policy makers. I consider Microsoft's
clear and deliberate deceipt an unconscionable act which demands
retribution. Their obvious attempt to co-opt the process and the deceipt
and out right lies wasted all of our time. Perhaps they've never cared
if they made enemies... I can't say... but I do know that they've
definitely made one here. I will be vocal... and soon.

Anyone care to join me? Write your political representatives for
starters. It's what I am going to do.

l8r!

On Wed, 22 Sep 2004, Ted Hardie spewed into the bitstream:

TH>
TH>After an assessment of the current state of the MARID working group,
TH>its charter, and its milestones, the working group chairs and Area
TH>Advisor have concluded that the MARID working group should be
TH>terminated.

An excellent choice. The whole of this has been an exercise in futility
from day one. The knowledge of hidden limits made clear last week when
the patent applications were published was clearly available to one of
our members when we started and they chose to jerk several hundred
people around for months in a clearly concerted effort to increase their
already overwhelming market dominance. I will not personally involve
myself again as a willing contributor in any process that presumes
decency, honesty, or simple forthright behavior from that member.

good luck.
