I agree that spf-devel should be for coders working on implementations, and
that changes to the spec itself belong here. At least that was how it was
explained to me as far as I can remember.

Hrumph. Do you guys want to get this done or not? I think its fair to
say that there is plenty of distraction in here much of it of a highly
political nature, and it hasn't help movement forward one bit. In
addition to this there are those who rehash already settled issues and
sometimes in an ambiguous way such that discussion ensues only to
discover its already been done/dealt with/etc..
I agree that there have been a lot of distractions.
<Opinion=mine>
I would like to see this list used more for SPF, and less for discussing
SenderID, MS, PRA, or patents.
SenderID is a blend of SPF and some other technologies, some of which are
public domain, and some of which are licensed. SPF is a part of SenderID,
but they are not one and the same.
Since not all SPF users are interested in SenderID, we might want to
designate SenderID as "off-topic" for the list (including MS, PRA,
patents). That would not necessarily make it prohibited, but those topics
should be used sparingly and listowners would be able to ask for the thread
to stop at their discretion. (This would apply equally to "SenderID is
Great" and "SenderID is Crap" messages.)
</Opinion>
Of course I would not want to implement such a policy based only on my
opinion. I would only do so if lots of people were to reply to me (on list
or privately) in support of such a plan, and if there were relatively few
objections.
If I'm the only one that feels this way well, so be it... I really think
this entire group has suffered in so many ways and things like this are
a perfect example. Its exceptionally hard to keep focus in here. Am I
the only one that feels this way?
You are right, it is a busy list, and reading a lot of emotionally charged
messages takes a toll on you.
I don't know quite what to do about it (though I think it has gotten a lot
better in the last 5 days or so).
Any other suggestions?
