I would sugest not encouraging the practice of using the name of a
collective (a "domain" in this context) also as the name of an
individual (a host). This pratice is just as wrongheaded in computers
as in real life, IMHO. While rfc1178 does not have the authority of
being on the standards track it does make the point. Incidentally,
long before SPF was thought of, an effective method for recognizing
falsified mails has been to detect crafted received header fields
claiming mail from domain when all real mail from such a domain is
mailed from a host.domain with the HELO command stating exactly that.
